SHIRING HAS FIVE HITS; CLARION FALLS AT BLOOMSBURG

Game One Box Score / Game Two Box Score

BLOOMSBURG – Freshman Elizabeth Shiring had five hits in six at bats in two games, but the Clarion University softball teams was swept in a PSAC Central doubleheader at Bloomsburg Wednesday.
 
Bloomsburg took Game One 6-1 and then used a 10-run third inning to win Game Two 16-1 in five innings.
 
Shiring had five singles and also scored a run in the twin bill for Clarion (5-9 overall, 0-6 PSAC Central). She was 3-for-3 in Game One and then went 2-for-3 in Game Two with a run scored.
 
Nicole Lollo added two doubles on the day for the Golden Eagles going 1-for-3 in Game One and 1-for-2 in Game Two. Kirsten Wilcox had Clarion's lone RBI on the day, a sacrifice fly in the top of the first of Game Two that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. But Bloom scored three in the bottom of the first and two more in the second before breaking the second game open with the big third inning that was aided by five home runs.
 
In Game One, Megan Daley took the loss going six innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on 11 hits while striking out two. Nicole Lindner joined Lollo and Shiring in the offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
Erica Burkey started Game Two and lasted 2 2/3 innings allowing 12 runs, all earned, on 11 hits and two walks. Daley finished off tossing 1 1/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits while hitting a batter.
 
Clarion returns to action Saturday when it travels to West Chester.
