CLARION DROPS TWINBILL TO LOCK HAVEN

Erica Burkey threw 8 2/3 innings allowing just one runs and six hits in the doubleheader

Game One Box Score / Game Two Box Score

LOCK HAVEN – Despite good individual performances from Kirsten Wilcox and Erica Burkey, the Clarion University softball team was turned back in its efforts at Lock Haven dropping a doubleheader to the Lady Eagles Thursday.

Clarion (6-14 overall, 1-9 PSAC Central) lost Game One 1-0 and Game Two 11-1 in five innings. The Golden Eagles were the home team in both contests.

Burkey pitched in both games throwing a total of 8 2/3 innings and allowing just one run on six hits while striking out two. She was the Game One loser tossing a three-hit complete game allowing one earned run, a Lock Haven home run in the sixth innings, while striking out two. She then pitched in relief in Game Two going 1 2/3 innings allowing three hits but no runs.

Wilcox, meanwhile, was 3-for-3 with a double in Game Two.

In Game One, Clarion had a couple of chances to score runs.

With one out in the fourth, Nicole Lollo walked and Carlie Cook singled her to third. Cook, though, was caught stealing before Nicole Lindner walked to put runner back on first and third. But Kacie Nemeth grounded out to end the threat.

Then in the seventh, Clarion looked like it might tie the game when Lindner singled and Nemeth followed with a base hit. But Lindner was thrown out at third trying to advance the extra base on the Nemeth single, and Clarion wasn't able to threaten anymore in the inning.

In Game Two, Lock Haven broke the game open early with five runs in the second inning off starter Megan Daley. The Lady Eagles then tacked on to in the third and four more in the fourth.

Clarion's lone run came in the bottom of the second. Meghan Stanton started the rally by getting hit with a pitch. Lindner then walked and Kaylynn Barco singled to load the bases. Stanton came home on an RBI groundout by Paige Alexander.

Daley took the loss going 3 1/3 innings and allowing 11 runs, 10 earned, on 12 hits and two walks.

Clarion returns to action Saturday at Mansfield.
