Kellie Bartman had 20 kills and six digs, but it wasn't enough to help the Clarion University women's volleyball team overcome a 2-0 deficit in falling 3-2 to Colorado Christian in the season-opener for the Golden Eagles Friday in Tampa, Fla.
Clarion (0-1) dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-23 before rallying to take the next two 25-15 and 25-23. The Golden Eagles then led 10-9 in the deciding set before Colorado Christian, a National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament team from last season, rallied to win the set and the match 15-12.
Corinne Manley and
Hannah Heeter each added eight kills and four blocks for Clarion, while
Amanda Gough had seven kills, 41 set assists and seven digs.
Emily Stewart added seven kills and seven digs with
Rebecca Beightol chipping in seven kills and five blocks.
Rhianon Brady had 14 digs.
The Golden Eagles face Eckerd at 5:45 p.m. Friday in Tampa.
