EAGLE MEN'S SWIMMERS SWEEP BORO/GANNON

Ben Appleby Wins 200 Free

FINAL RESULTS
 
            (Clarion, Pa.): Clarion University swimmers Mark Krchnak (Jr. Clearfield), Ben Appleby (Jr. York) and Matt Bojalad (Jr. DuBois), along with divers Ethan Merritt (So. San Luis Obispo, Ca.) and Seth Brandenburg (So. Canton, Ohio) were single winners leading the Golden Eagle Men's Swimming and Diving team to an impressive sweep over Edinboro and Gannon on Saturday in NCAA Division II dual meet action.
 
            Held at Clarion's W.S. Tippin Natatorium on “Senior Day”, Clarion defeated Edinboro 149.5 – 86.5, and also defeated Gannon 145 – 93. The Clarion men raised their overall record to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC.
 
            Krchnak won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.15), Appleby the 200 free  (1:46.35) and Bojalad the 50 freestyle (21.94). Appleby was also second in the 100 free (48.53).
 
            Merritt meanwhile won the 3 meter diving event scoring 303.08 points and Brandenburg took the 1 meter title scoring 274.35 points.
 
            Clarion's 200 medley relay and 200 free relays also took first place honors. The 200 medley team of Joe Ward (Jr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop), Krchnak,  Joe Welch (Jr. Erie/Strong Vincent) and Bojalad won with a time of 1:37.92.
 
            The 200 free relay team of Ward, Bojalad, Casey Dunleavy (Jr. McMurray) and Appleby won with a time of 1:26.89.
 
            Clarion, under 12th year head coach Mark VanDyke, is off until Feb. 4th when the Golden Eagles swim at the University of Pittsburgh.
 
            CLARION NOTES: Clarion honored 3 seniors in their final meet at Clarion – they were Sean Donohue (Crescent Twp. – Moon), Justin Duncan (South Park) and Joshua Fry (Latrobe).
