HEETER HAS FOURTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN A ROW IN CLARION LOSS AT GANNON

Hannah Heeter has four straight double-doubles in five in her last six games

Box Score ERIE – The Hannah Heeter double-double show continued Saturday, but it wasn't enough to help Clarion overcome a balanced Gannon squad that topped the visiting Golden Eagles 72-58 at the Hammermill Center in Erie.

Heeter recorded her fourth straight double-double and her fifth in six games with 14 points and 15 rebounds, the second straight 15-rebound performance for the red-shirt freshman. She is the first Golden Eagles with four straight double-doubles since Jessica Albanese had four in a row and five in six games in 2008.

But Gannon (13-3 overall, 10-2 PSAC West) had four players in double figures and fifth with nine points to topple Clarion (4-12, 3-9) for the seventh time in seven tries in PSAC West play.

Jennifer Papich led the Lady Knights with 17 points, five rebounds and five steals. Kelsey McCoy added 13 points off the bench, while Caitlyn Lowe had 12 points and Mollie Sebald 10 points and seven rebounds.

Ann Deibert added 12 points and four rebounds for Clarion with Emma Fickel chipping in 10 points and hitting two three-pointers to move into eighth place in school history in career threes with 129. Raven Jones had 10 assists, the second time this season she had 10 helpers, but also turned the ball over 10 times. Courtney Healy chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.

Gannon built a 15-point halftime lead, 40-25, on thanks in part to a 13-2 first-half run and quickly built the lead to 45-25 1:15 into the second half on five points by Papich.

But Clarion responded going on a 13-0 run that featured five points from Fickel and four from Heeter to get within seven, 45-38, with 13:43 to play.

The Lady Knights, though, answered with a 13-0 run of its own to put the lead back to 20, 58-38, with 9:49 left, and Clarion never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts California.
