CLARION LOSES 80-67 AT UPJ

                (JOHNSTOWN, PA.): Clarion got 17 points and 9 rebounds from Ann Deibert and 14 points and 6 rebounds from Hannah Heeter but it wasn't enough on Tuesday night as the Golden Eagles fell to Pitt-Johnstown 80-67 in NCAA Division II women's basketball.
 
                Held at the UPJ Sportscenter, Clarion dipped to 3-7 on the season while UPJ raised its record to 3-7.
 
                Clarion played  a solid first half and trailed by only four points, 35-31 at halftime when Hannah Heeter  scored a lay-up with 9-seconds remaining before intermission. Deibert led Clarion with 7 points at halftime, while Emma Fickel had 6 tallies.
 
                The Golden Eagles were only down by seven points (50-43) when Raven Jones hit a jumper with 12:50 left in the game.
 
                A five-point run pushed UPJ's lead to 12 points  (55-43) when Amber Smith hit a three-pointer at 10:46. Later in the second half the Lady Cats led by 17 (68-51) on a three-pointer by Kaitlynn Fratz with 6:47 remaining.
 
                Clarion rallied to cut UPJ's lead to only 9 points (72-63) when the Eagles mounted an 8-point run late in the second half.  Deibert scored six straight points to start the run that included two free throws (3:54) and lay-ups at 3:07 and 2:25. Nicole Miloser hit two free throws at 1:01 at Clarion only trailed by nine.
 
                UPJ closed the final minute and sealed the game making eight of eight from the free throw line.
 
                Clarion put three players in double figures with Deibert getting 17, Heeter at 14 and Emma Fickel with 10. The Golden Eagles shot 52% from the floor (26 of 50) and 13 of 17 from the free throw line. Clarion also outrebounded UPJ 40-30, but Clarion had 33 turnovers to UPJ's 17.
 
                Clarion will host Mansfield on Friday, January 6th at 5:30pm and then host Bloomsburg on Saturday at 5:30pm as part of a women's/men's doubleheader. The men's games will get underway at 7:30.
