GOLDEN EAGLES UPSET BID FALLS JUST SHORT

Ann Deibert had a career-high 23 points for Clarion

Box Score CLARION – Clarion's upset bid of 10-win Bloomsburg came up short, as the Golden Eagles fell at home 75-68 Saturday night.
 
Clarion (4-8 overall, 3-5 PSAC West) led by eight, 42-34, at halftime and by 11, 47-36, in the opening minutes of the second half before Bloomsburg (11-2, 5-3) used a 29-7 run to turn the score around and take a 65-54 lead with 6:20 to play.
 
The Golden Eagles didn't go away pulling within five, 73-68, on two Lauren Savulchak free throws with 57 seconds left and then coming up with a big turnover on the ensuing Bloomsburg possession. But the Huskies were able to return the favor getting a steal and then hitting two free throws to seal the victory.
 
Ann Deibert led Clarion with a career-high 23 points on 10 of 14 shooting. She also had seven rebounds and two assists. Emma Fickel added 20 points while tying her career high with six three-pointers (6 of 9). Fickel also had five rebounds including four offensive boards. Hannah Heeter added 12 points and just missed her second straight double-double by grabbing nine rebounds and adding three steals and two assists. Raven Jones had a career-high 10 assists but also turned the ball over 10 times, as Clarion had 33 giveaways leading to 29 Bloomsburg points. Jones chipped in eight points and two steals.
 
Kayla Oxenrider had 17 points, six rebounds, six assists, three blocked shots and three steals to lead Bloomsburg. Kelsey Gallagher added 15 points and Catherine Noack 11. Dana Wieller chipped in nine points and hit a three-pointer for the Huskies while taking over the school career lead in the threes category with 208.
 
Clarion built the eight-point halftime lead on the strength of a 17-5 run that featured six points each from Heeter and Deibert. The Golden Eagles shot a blistering 64.3 percent (18 of 28) in the first half on their way to shooting 50.9 percent (27 of 53) for the game. Bloomsburg shot 37.1 percent (26 of 70) on the night including just 4 of 20 from three-point range in the first half and 9 of 38 from beyond the arc for the game.
 
The Golden Eagles return to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when they host Mercyhurst.
 
NOTES – Jones' previous high in assists was nine achieved twice including last week against Seton Hill … Deibert's previous high in points was 22 at Lock Haven last year … This is the third time Fickel has hit six threes in a game and the first time this season. She was 5 of 5 in the first half from beyond the arc.
