Box Score CALIFORNIA, Pa. – In a match up of two of the top teams in the PSAC West, California rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat visiting Clarion 3-2 in women's volleyball action Friday night.
Clarion (19-4 overall, 9-1 PSAC West) won the first set 25-20 and the third set 25-21 after Cal took the second set 25-18. But the Vulcans (19-4, 8-2) rallied in set four to get a 25-15 victory before eking out a 15-12 set-five win to take the match.
Rebecca Webb, fresh of her PSAC West Player of the Week performance last week, had another strong match with 19 kills and four blocks while hitting .447 (19K, 2E, 38A). But overall, Clarion struggled on offense hitting .147 (59-32-184) while also committing 11 service errors, the fourth most on the season for the Golden Eagles.
Emily Stewart added 16 kills and 12 digs for Clarion, while
Corinne Manley had 10 kills and three blocks and
Hannah Heeter eight kills and a block.
Laura Subject set up the Golden Eagle attack with 48 set assists and added 12 digs and two kills, and
Rebecca Ferragonio was the defensive stalwart with 36 digs.
Kelly Fromknecht and Brandy Harris led Cal with 11 kills each, while Abbey Freund had 25 set assists and Fromknecht, who also chipped in 14 digs and five blocks, had 22.
Clarion returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday at IUP.
