GOLDEN EAGLES REBOUND FROM LOSS TO BEAT IUP 3-0

Carlie Bieranowski had 12 kills, 16 digs and hit .429

Box Score INDIANA, Pa. – The Clarion University women's volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss Friday night at California by sweeping a solid IUP team 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Indiana.

“Coming off the loss last night, I was pleased with how we played,” Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills said. “My biggest concern coming in was how our confidence would be. We did a pretty good job of putting last night behind us.”

Clarion (20-4 overall, 10-1 PSAC West) won by scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-21 using large runs in each of the sets to get the win.

Carlie Bieranowski, Rebecca Webb, Emily Stewart and Corinne Manley led the offense combining for 43 kills and helping the Golden Eagles hit .258 (47 kills, 14 errors, 128 attempts) for the match.

“We were able to generate offense from all five of our hitters,” Mills said. “We were a little more complete than last night.”

Bieranowski and Webb each had 12 kills, while Stewart had 11 and Manley eight. Bieranowski hit .467 (12-0-28) and Manley .467 (8-1-15) for the Golden Eagles.

“I am happy with the way they played,” Mills said. “Carlie, especially, really turned it around from last night. She played her best volleyball at the end of the match and was taking good swings.”

Bieranowski added 16 digs, while Stewart had 13 and Webb five to go with three blocks. Rebecca Ferragonio had a team-high 17 digs with Laura Subject adding 36 set assists and 11 digs.

Clarion used a 13-4 run in the first set to break a 7-all tie and take a 20-11 lead before IUP (18-9, 6-5) got back within five, 21-16 before the Golden Eagles put the match away.

In the second set, Clarion was down 4-3 early but went on a 17-5 run to get the easy win.

IUP then came out strong in the third set going ahead 10-4 before Clarion rallied to go up 14-12. The Crimson Hawks, though, retook the lead at 19-14 before an 11-1 Golden Eagle run put the match away.

Morgan Cerveny led IUP with 10 kills.

Clarion returns to action Friday when it hosts Gannon at 7 p.m.
