GOLDEN EAGLES FALL AT MERCYHURST 3-1

Box Score ERIE, Pa. – Despite getting nine kills apiece from Rebecca Webb, Emily Stewart and Hannah Heeter, the Clarion University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Mercyhurst Friday night.
 
The Golden Eagles fell behind 2-0 dropping the first set 25-18 and the second 25-23 before rallying to take the third set 25-22. But Mercyhurst closed out the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory.
 
The loss drops Clarion to 22-6 overall and 12-3 in the PSAC West. The Golden Eagles are in second place in the PSAC West a half-game ahead of California and a half-game back of Gannon. Mercyhurst improves to 22-6 overall and 9-5 in the PSAC West and earned a split in the season series with Clarion, who knocked off the Lakers 3-1 Sept. 29 in Clarion.
 
Webb added seven digs and four blocks in the game and became the 15th player in school history to record 900 career kills with her sixth kill of the night. She has 903, the 14th most in school history.
 
Stewart chipped in with 13 digs, while Heeter added seven blocks.
 
Laura Subject recorded 33 set assists running the offense and in the process [asses Brooke Paxton to move into 11th place in school history in career set assists with 1,065.
 
Rebecca Ferragonio paced the defense with 22 digs giving her exactly 500 on the season. It marks the 12th time in school history a player has recorded 500 digs in a season.  
 
Clarion led the first set 18-16 before Mercyhurst scored the final nine points to take the 25-18 win. In the second set, the Golden Eagles held a 19-18 lead before Mercyhurst went on a 7-4 run to close it out 25-23.
 
In the third set, Clarion fell behind 10-7 and was down 16-15 before rallying to win 25-22. But in the fourth set, Mercyhurst jumped ahead 9-5 and never trailed, although Clarion did get within one, 19-18, before losing 25-19.
 
The Golden Eagles return to action at 4 p.m. Saturday when they host No. 19 Wheeling Jesuit. It is the Halloween Bash with a costume contest for Clarion students with three students each taking home a $150 gift card from the Clarion University book store.
