CLARION BEATS EAST STROUDSBURG 3-0

Laura Subject led Clarion with 16 set assists, three kills, and three digs.

Box Score CLARION, PA – A balanced effort led the Clarion University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over East Stroudsburg Friday night at Tippin Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles swept their way to victory 25-9, 25-18, and 25-19.

Clarion was led by Laura Subject who finished with 16 set assists, three kills, and three digs.  Hannah Heeter chipped in with five kills and two assists, while Rebecca Webb and Corinne Manley added five kills.  Emily Stewart led the way with nine digs, while Rebecca Ferragonio added eight.

The Golden Eagles opened up the first set on a 16-3 run.  “We got off to a good start in the first set,” Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills said.  “We took momentum into this match from this afternoon's five set victory over Lock Haven.”  The Golden Eagles went on to win the set 25-9.

In the second set, Clarion jumped out to a 14-2 lead.  East Stroudsburg (7-8 overall, 4-4 PSAC East) cut the lead to four before Clarion closed out the set 25-19.  “We got lazy in the second set,” said Mills.  “No matter who is out on the floor, we need to stay consistent and keep playing.”

In the third set, East Stroudsburg jumped out to a 16-10 lead.  Clarion closed out the set on a 15-3 run winning it 25-19.  “I was overall pleased with our performance,” Mills said.  “I was happy with the way we came out after playing a five set match earlier today.

With the win, Clarion improves to (17-3 overall, 7-0 PSAC West).  It marks their best start since the 2010 season and tied for the third-best start in school history.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow morning with a match at 10:00 a.m. when they will host Shippensburg.
