CLARION DEFEATS LOCK HAVEN 3-2

Box Score CLARION, PA – Behind 19 Rebecca Webb kills, the Clarion University women's volleyball team defeated Lock Haven 3-2 Friday afternoon at Tippin Gymnasium.

Clarion (16-3 overall, 6-0 PSAC West) dropped the first set 25-12, before taking set two 28-26, and set three 25-12.  Lock Haven took set four 25-17, but Clarion was able to pull out the fifth set 15-12.

“The second set completely changed the momentum for us,” Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills said.  “We were able to take control of the points at the service line, and keep the ball in the middle to set up our offense.”

Carlie Bieranowski chipped in with 11 kills and 18 digs for Clarion, while Rebecca Ferragonio also added 18 digs.  Laura Subject helped set up the offense with 40 set assists and added 14 digs.

Lock Haven (9-8 overall, 4-2 PSAC East) took the first set 25-12.  “We played inconsistent in the first set,” Mills said. “I just told our girls to stay focused and take it one point at a time.”

Clarion came out strong in the second set and gained momentum winning it 28-26. 

The Golden Eagles opened up the third set on a 7-0 run and they went on to win the set 25-13. 

In the fourth set, the scored was tied 12-12 before Lock Haven took control.  The Bald Eagles finished the set on a 13-5 run to close out the set 25-17.

In the fifth and final set, Lock Haven came out strong leading Clarion 9-7.  The Golden Eagles gained momentum and ended the match on an 8-3 run winning the fifth set 15-12.

Clarion returns to action later this evening at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts East Stroudsburg.
