CLARION DEFEATS SHIPPENSBURG 3-0

Carlie Bieranowski finished with 18 kills and nine digs to lead Clarion.

Box Score CLARION, PA – Behind Carlie Bieranowski's 18 kills and nine digs, the Clarion University women's volleyball team defeated Shippensburg 3-0 Saturday morning at Tippin Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles gained control early and won the first set 25-18.  Clarion won the second set 25-23, and the third 25-15 to clinch the match.

Emily Stewart chipped in with 11 kills and five digs, while Rebecca Webb added 10 kills.  Rebecca Ferragonio had 16 digs, and Laura Subject set up the offense with 38 set assists.

Clarion (18-3 overall, 8-0 PSAC West) gained control early in the first set and never looked back.  They went on to win the set 25-18.

“I was very pleased with the way we opened up the match,” Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills said.  “We played with a lot of energy this morning after two hard fought victories yesterday.”

In the second set, Shippensburg (15-7, 5-3 PSAC East) led 17-16.  Clarion won the next five points and was able to close out the set 25-23.

In the third set, Clarion jumped out to a 20-12 advantage which guided them to a 25-15 win in the third set.

“I was happy with the way our setter (Subject) led the offense today,” Mills said.  “She was able to make it easy for our hitters to take advantage and get some easy kills.” 

As a team, Clarion finished with 46 kills, averaging 15.3 kills per set.

With the win, the Golden Eagles stay unbeaten in the PSAC West with a one game lead over Gannon and California.

Clarion returns to action later this evening at 6 p.m. where they will host Millersville.
