Box Score FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Five players scored in double figures, as the Clarion University women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season, 81-75 over Concord, Saturday afternoon in Fairmont, W. Va.
Freshman
Leisha Crawford led the way for the Golden Eagles (1-1) with 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting including 2 of 2 from beyond the arc, while
Aleya Miller added 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a steal and shot 5 of 9 from the floor.
Miller scored seven of her points during a key 12-4 run early in the second half that expanded a three-point Clarion lead, 46-43, into an 11-point advantage, 58-47, with 12:03 to play.
The Golden Eagles got the lead to as many as 13 a couple of times with the latest being 72-59 with 6:15 to play before Concord (0-2) rallied to within five, 78-73, with 39 seconds left. Clarion, though, hit 3 of 4 free throws in the final 25 seconds to seal the win.
Mariah Gador, another freshman, added 12 points for the Golden Eagles with
Ann Deibert chipped in 11 points and five rebounds and
Raven Jones 11 points, three assists and three steals.
Tania Holmes had a solid game as well with six points, four rebounds and four assists.
Clarion shot 53.4 percent (31 of 58) for the game including 14 of 25 (56 percent) in the second half.
Tanisha Williams led Concord with a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) off the bench with Stephanie Wagner adding 19 points and Katy Somerville 11. Concord shot just 37.9 percent (25 of 66) from the field including 6 of 23 from beyond the arc.
Clarion returns to action at 2 p.m. next Saturday (Nov. 17) at Notre Dame College (Ohio).
