GOLDEN EAGLES DEFEAT IUP 3-0.

Rebecca Webb finished with 11 kills, two aces, and three blocks.

Box Score CLARION, PA – Rebecca Webb and Emily Stewart combined for 20 kills as the Clarion University women's volleyball team defeated IUP 3-0 Friday evening at Tippin Gymnasium.

Clarion won a close first set 27-25 before taking the second set easily 25-13.  The Golden Eagles took that momentum into the third set winning it 25-23.

“IUP worked hard and fought well against us tonight,” said Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills.  “They made us fight and we were able to respond.”

Laura Subject set up the offense nicely with 28 set assists, 10 digs, and three kills, while Carlie Bieranowski added 13 digs and four kills.  Corinne Manley chipped in with five kills, while Rebecca Ferragonio added 16 digs.

The first set went back and fourth with nine lead changes in all.  Clarion was able to tie the match at 24-24, while saving one set point.  The Golden Eagles closed out the set 27-25.

In the second set, Clarion jumped out to a 10-2 lead which gave them all of the momentum.  The Golden Eagles went on to win the set 25-13.

In the third set, Clarion led a close set the whole way until IUP took an 18-16 lead.  The Golden Eagles fought back and eventually took the set 25-23 which gave them the 3-0 victory.

“The girls had a lot of fun tonight,” said Mills.  “Even though the match stayed very close, we never got down and were able to keep fighting the whole time.  I'm very proud of how hard they worked tonight.”

Morgan Cerveny led IUP (19-13 overall, 7-9 PSAC West) with seven kills while Aubree Frye chipped in with nine digs and six set assists.

With the win, Clarion improves to 23-7 overall and 13-3 in the PSAC West.  Clarion remains one game ahead of California (Pa) for second place in the standings.  The top two seeds in the PSAC West will get a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Clarion returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. where it will host California (Pa) for Senior Day.

NOTES – Rebecca Webb now has 919 career kills.  That ranks 13th all time in Clarion history.  Webb also has 443 career blocks which ranks 5th all time.  Laura Subject now has 1114 set assists in her career which ranks 11th all time.  Subject has 1003 assists this season which ranks 15th all time, and she becomes the 8th player in Clarion history with more than 1000 assists in a season.  Rebecca Ferragonio now has 530 digs this season.  That ranks 11th all time as she trails Ashley Kreiner by five digs.  Clarion Head coach Jennifer Mills picked up her 144th career victory as head coach this evening.  On September 22, 2012, Mills set the school record in career wins in just her sixth season, winning her 133rd match with a 3-0 victory over Cheyney.
