CLARION DROPS 83-65 DECISION TO MILLERSVILLE

Tania Holmes had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists for the Golden Eagles

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Hannah Heeter recorded her first double-double of the season and the 14th of her young career with 10 points and 14 rebounds, but Carly Gallagher netted game-high 27 points for Millersville, which defeated homestanding Clarion, 83-65, in PSAC Crossover action Sunday at Tippin Gym.
 
Heeter, who has 27 points and 23 rebounds in her first two games of the season, did a lot of her offensive damage from the free-throw line going 6 of 8 from the line while adding two steals and two assists in just 20 minutes of action. Half her rebounds were of the offensive variety.
 
But Gallagher hit 8 of 13 shots from the field and 7 of 8 from the line while nailing four 3-pointers for Millersville (4-0 overall, 2-0 PSAC East), which led 46-34 at halftime before outscoring Clarion (2-4, 0-2 PSAC West) 37-31 in the  second half.
 
A pair of freshman had solid scoring games for the Golden Eagles with Mariah Gador tying a season high with a team-high 12 points and Tania Holmes adding nine points, a season-best eight rebounds and three assists. Raven Jones chipped in eight points for Clarion as did Emma Fickel, who hit a pair of 3-pointers.
 
Mashira Newman and Aurielle Mosley each added 13 points and five rebounds for Millersville with Newman contributing five assists, three blocks and two steals and Mosley four assists. Miesha Cousins had a team-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points for the Marauders.
 
Clarion led by one, 27-26, with five minutes left in the first half before Millersville ended the half on a 20-7 run aided by Clarion having three key players – Heeter, Raven Jones and Ann Deibert – on the bench with two fouls apiece.
 
Millersville got the lead to 20, 66-46, halfway through the second half before a 12-0 Clarion run fueled by six points each from Heeter and Jones got the Golden Eagles to within eight, 66-58, with 7:32 left. A 9-0 Millersville answer, though, put an end to Clarion's comeback hopes.
 
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Slippery Rock.


NOTES – There were 50 fouls called in the game – 26 on Millersville and 24 on Clarion with 63 foul shots attempted. Millersville was 22 of 33 (66.7 percent) from the line while Clarion was 15 of 30 (50.0 percent) … Clarion shot 36.7 percent (22 of 60) with Millersville checking in at 40.9 percent (27 of 66) … Clarion outrebounded Millersville 49-44 … Heeter finished one rebound shy of her ninth 15-rebound game. Her eight 15-rebound contests ranks third in school history in a career behind Heather Cigich's 16 and Shay Godwin's 11.
