James Fleming will be honored in pre-match ceremonies, while the Clarion University wrestling team hosts #13 rated Pitt on Friday night at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium. The NCAA D-I matchup will begin at 7pm.
The Pitt match can be heard live on the radio on WCCR-FM 92.7 in Clarion, as well as on the internet at redzonemedia.com, with
Rich Herman and John Stroup calling the action.
2012 NCAA Division I All-American
James Fleming (West Mifflin), will be honored in pre-match ceremonies for reaching the coveted 100 career win plateau. Ranked #3 in the nation currently at 157-pounds, Fleming reached 100 career wins in early December at while winning the Nittany Lion Open. Since then he went on to win his second PSAC individual title at 157 and was named the tournament's “OW”. He has a current season record of 16-1 and a career record of 108-17 with 34 falls and 17 technical falls. A sports Management major at Clarion, he is the son of John Fleming and Regina Fitzhenry.
The Golden Eagles are 1-3 in dual meet action, having lost to then #18 Rutgers (26-6), defeated Eastern Michigan 21-10, and lost to #10 Northwestern 26-9 and #20 Edinboro 28-12. The Golden Eagles also placed second at the 70
th Annual PSAC Championships in December.

Pitt, led by veteran head coach Rande Stottlemyer, in his 34
th season, brings the #13 rated Panthers to Tippin Gym with 5 nationally ranked wrestlers. The Panthers opened the season with dual meet losses to Michigan (16-15) and Ohio State (26-13), with big wins recently over Virginia Tech (18-16) and Maryland (23-12).
The Panther lineup features 5 nationally ranked wrestlers in #11 Shelton Mack at 133, #10 Tyler Wilps at 165, #14 Max Thomusseit at 184, #2 Matt Wilps at 197 and #7 Zac Thomusseit at heavyweight. Overall the lineup will feature either Godwin Nyama (2-5) or Derrick Nelson (4-3) at 125, Mack (6-3) at 133, Travis Shaffer (1-3) at 141, Ronnie Garbinsky (0-0) at 149, Troy Reaghard (6-5) or Donnie Tasser (5-4) at 157, Tyler Wilps (8-1) at 165, Nick Bonaccorsi (7-2) at 174, Max Thomusseit (7-1) or P.J. Tasser (8-4) at 184, Matt Wilps (5-0) at 197 and Zac Thomusseit (9-0) at 285.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion has an EWL record of 16-18-2 against the Panthers, and a non-league record of 4-3 – for an overall series record of 20-21-2 in the schools history … Last year Clarion lost at Pitt 28-10 at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse … Clarion's last win against Pitt came in the 2001 season by a 32-5 score... Pitt has won 11 straight since 2001 ... Clarion will be participating at the prestigious Midlands Tournament on Dec. 29-30… Clarion returns home to host North Carolina at 2pm and Michigan State at 4pm on January 12.
