Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Behind four players in double digits led by
Hannah Heeter's 16 points and 10 rebounds, the Clarion University women's basketball team won its first PSAC West game of the year, 75-53, over Slippery Rock Saturday night at Tippin Gym.
Joining Heeter, who recorded her second double-double in a row and the 15
th of her career, in double digits were
Ann Deibert with 14 points,
Raven Jones with 11 and
Mariah Gador with 10. Deibert added five rebounds and Jones and Gador four each with Gador also handing out four assists and coming away with three steals and Jones dishing out three helpers. Heeter added two blocks, an assist and a steal to her line while shooting 8 of 12 from the field. Also for Clarion,
Tania Holmes had eight points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals and
Lauren Savulchak chipped in seven points, three rebounds and two helpers.
Jazmyne Frost had a double-double, 10 points, 11 rebounds, to lead Slippery Rock. She was the only Rock player in double digits. Alexas Brown chipped in six points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals with Emilee Vitez adding nine points and seven rebounds.
Clarion led wire-to-wire jumping out to a 12-4 lead just over four minutes into the game and then using runs of 10-3 and 11-2 in the first half to build a 46-30 halftime lead. Slippery Rock never got closer than 15 in the second half, and the Golden Eagles used an 11-3 run in the half to get the lead to as many as 26, 74-48, with just under three minutes to play.
Deibert was the catalyst of the early 12-4 run with six of her 14 points in the first 3 ½ minutes of the game, while Heeter and Savulchak each had four points during the 10-3 spurt and Deibert four points and Gador and Holmes each three during the 11-2 run. The second-half run was fueled by five points from
Leisha Crawford and four from Gador.'
Clarion returns to action Saturday, Dec. 15, at Ursuline. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
NOTES – A pair of freshman made their Clarion debuts Saturday with
Bri Nellis and
Heather Barrett each getting into a game for the first time this season … Heeter's 15 double-doubles ranks ninth all-time in school history just three back of Beth Russell for eighth. In three games this year, Heeter has 43 points and 33 rebounds with the two double-doubles.
