Box Score CLARION – Emma Fickel scored a season-high 21 points and Hannah Heeter had her ninth double-double of the year with 18 points and 14 rebounds, but the Clarion University women's basketball team fell short to visiting Gannon 81-60 Saturday night at Tippin Gym.
 
Fickel hit three three-pointers and was 4 of 5 from the free-throw line, while Heeter added four assists and had a career-best five blocked shots for Clarion (6-16 overall, 5-13 PSAC West), but 18^th ranked Gannon (18-4, 15-3) got 17 points off the bench from Brittany Batts, 15 points and nine rebounds from Mollie Sebald, also off the bench, and 16 points and five rebounds from Caitlyn Lowe to get the victory.
 
Clarion had the advantage most of the first half and led by seven, 21-14, following a free throw by Mackenzie Clark with 6:58 left in the half. But Gannon, thanks in part to five three-pointers including two each from Lowe and Sebald, ended the half on a 25-4 run to take a 39-25 halftime lead.
 
Gannon quickly turned the run into a 33-6 spurt thanks to two more threes to go up 20, 47-27, two minutes into the second half. The Lady Knights still led by 20, 49-29, with just over 14 minutes to play before Clarion went on a 14-5 run thanks to five points from Clark and four from Heeter to cut the lead to 11, 54-43, with 7:50 to play.
 
Clarion still trailed by 11, 59-48, following a Heeter layup with 6:07 to play before Gannon went on a 20-8 run to put the game away.
 
Ann Deibert added eight points for Clarion, while Clark had five points and seven rebounds.
 
Nettie Blake added nine points and five rebounds for Gannon.
 
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Lock Haven.
 
NOTES – Heeter's nine double-doubles are the most by a Clarion freshman since Heather Cigich had 13 in 2002 … Heeter's 14 rebounds gives her 217 on the season moving her into fifth place in school history in freshman rebounding … Fickel's three treys gives her 51 on the season. She is the first Golden Eagle with back-to-back seasons of 50 or more threes since Amelia Harris did it in 2004 and 2005. Fickel has 140 career three-pointers … At halftime, Clarion alumnae were honored. There is alumnae game scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at the Rec Center and there was an alumnae reception prior to the game in Moore Hall.
