Hannah Heeter recorded her 11
th double-double in the past 13 games, but California had 11 difference players reach the scoreboard in getting a 93-63 win over Clarion in PSAC West women's basketball action Wednesday at Cal's Convocation Center.
Heeter, who has 12 double-doubles on the year and will finish the season as the first Golden Eagle freshman to average a season double-double in 26 years, had 14 points and 11 rebounds despite being in foul trouble for much of the last 25 minutes. With one game to play, she is three rebounds behind the school freshman record of 272 set by Cheryl Bansek in 1986. Bansek was the last Golden Eagle rookie to average a season double-double.
Emma Mahady led a balanced California (17-8 overall, 14-7 PSAC West) attack with 16 points, while Danielle Luckett added 15 and Amy Johns 13.
Emma Fickel contributed 12 points – on four three-pointers – and seven rebounds, while
Aleya Miller had 11 points and six boards for Clarion (7-18, 6-15).
Raven Jones chipped in eight points and seven assists.
Clarion trailed by nine, 44-35, at halftime before Cal got hot in the second half outscoring the Golden Eagles 49-28.
The Golden Eagles close their season at 1 p.m. Saturday at Slippery Rock.
NOTES – Fickel has 64 three-pointers on the season and is the fourth player in school history to have multiple seasons of 60 or more three-pointers … Heeter has 301 points on the year, the seventh most by a freshman in school history. It marks the second straight season Clarion has had a freshman top 300 points. Last year, Fickel had 346 … Jones has 133 assists on the season, the seventh most in a season in school history. She also has 242 in her career, the 11
th most in school history. She needs two more helpers to break into the Top 10.
