HEETER HAS EIGHTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE BUT CLARION FALLS AT IUP

Hannah Heeter had 17 points, 11 rebounds

Box Score INDIANA, Pa. – Despite Hannah Heeter's eighth double-double in less than a month, the Clarion University women's basketball team fell at IUP 78-62 Saturday night at the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex in Indiana.
 
Heeter had 17 points and 11 rebounds to become the first Golden Eagle to record eight double-doubles in a span of a month since Heather Cigich had nine in 2004, but 17th ranked IUP (17-3 overall, 13-3 PSAC West) got 24 points and 12 rebounds from Sarah Pastorek and 18 points and seven assists from Marita Mathe while outscoring Clarion (6-14, 5-11) 60-35 over the final 26 minutes to get the victory.   
 
Clarion, which also got 10 points and nine rebounds from Ann Deibert and 10 points from Raven Jones, led 27-18 with 6:27 left in the first half but watched IUP go on a half-ending 20-3 run to take a 38-30 halftime lead. The Crimson Hawks, who also got 11 points from Leslie Stapleton and 10 from Amy Fairman, then used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to open up a 15-point lead, 54-39.
 
The Golden Eagles fought back and used a 7-0 run led by five points from Heeter to get back within eight, 67-59, with 3:47 to play and also were down eight, 69-61, following a Jones basket with 2:43 left but got no closer.
 
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mercyhurst.
 
NOTES – With her 11 rebounds, Heeter moved into eighth place in school history in freshman rebounding with 194 passing Krista Archiable and Angela Williams. She trails Mona Gaffney for seventh place by six rebounds. Heeter is trying to become the first Clarion freshman with 200 rebounds in a season since Cigich had 241 in 2002 … Heeter's eight double-doubles on the season are the most by a Clarion player since Sara Pratt had nine in 2009 … There were 65 free throws in the game and 52 fouls … IUP was 24 of36 from the line while Clarion was 22 of 29 including Nicole Miloser who was 7 of 8 for all seven of her points. Miloser added five rebounds … Pastorek was 12 of 13 from the line for IUP.
