NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore
Kirsten Wilcox had four hits, three RBIs and a run scored and junior
Kacie Nemeth had two hits and an RBI, but it wasn't enough to lift the Clarion University softball team to victory in a pair of season-opening games Monday in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Wilcox went 1-for-3 with a run scored and Nemeth was 2-for-4 with an RBI in a season-opening 9-4 loss to Lycoming, and Wilcox then added a 3-for-3 performance with a pair of RBIs in a 6-3 loss to Concord in the second game of the day.
Also for the Golden Eagles (0-2) in the first game,
Elizabeth Shiring and
Rebecca Lynch each went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while
Lydia Middaugh was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In the second game,
Taylor Sherry helped Wilcox by going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while
Taylor Powell was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Julie Sokol took the loss in Game One pitching three innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits and two walks.
Megan Daley finished off throwing three innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits. Both pitchers had a strikeout.
In the second game,
Shawnna Crago took the loss going three innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and six walks. She struck out three.
Chelsea Zola finished off pitching four innings and allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks.
Clarion returns to action with a pair of games in North Myrtle Beach Tuesday. The Golden Eagles face Concord again at 1:30 p.m. before taking on Suffolk University at 5:30 p.m. The Suffolk game will be broadcast over the internet with the video feed available at
