SOFTBALL DROPS TWINBILL AT MERCYHURST

Elizabeth Shiring had a run scored and an RBI in Game Two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ERIE – The Clarion University softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader at Mercyhurst Tuesday.
 
The Golden Eagles (6-8) lost Game One 9-0 in five innings and then dropped a 10-2, 6-inning decision in Game Two.
 
In the second game, Clarion got RBIs from Elizabeth Shiring (sacrifice fly on which she reached on an error) and Taylor Powell, who was 1-for-3 with a double. Shiring also scored a run as did Kirsten Wilcox, who was 2-for-3.
 
In the first game, Clarion had three hits with Rebecca Lynch, Sara Clark and Paige Alexander all recording singles.
 
Julie Sokol took the loss in Game One going 2 1/3 innings and allowing nine runs, six earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out two. Megan Daley threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief walking one.
 
In the second game, Daley took the loss going five innings and allowing six runs, all earned, on 11 hits and a walk while striking out two. Shawnna Crago went 2/3 of an inning allowing four runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks.
 
Clarion's two runs in Game Two came in the third and the fourth.
 
In the third, Shiring was hit by a pitch and scored on a one-out double by Powell.
 
Then in the fourth, Wilcox and Chelsea Zola had back-to-back singles leading off the inning before Taylor Sherry drew a one out walk to load the bases. Lynch then hit a fly ball to right that was charged an error on the right fielder scoring Wilcox, but Zola was out at the plate trying to score on an Amanda Gough fly out.
 
Clarion returns to action with a 2:30 p.m. home doubleheader against Point Park Wednesday.
