Box Score 2 CLARION – Clarion freshman
Taylor Sherry went a combined 3-for-5 with a home run in two games Saturday vs. Kutztown, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles dropped a pair of games to the visiting Golden Bears at Memorial Field.
Kutztown took Game One 9-1 and Game Two 8-3.
In the opening game of the doubleheader, Clarion dropped behind in the third inning, 1-0, before back-to-back doubles by Kutztown in the fifth made it 2-0.
Clarion jumped back in the game in the bottom of the fifth with a firs- pitch home run by, cutting the lead in half, 2-1.
Kutztown came back in the top of the sixth with another three runs to make it 5-1 before adding four unearned runs in the seventh to cap off the win.
Shawnna Crago took the loss going 6 2/3 innings allowing nine runs, five earned, on 11 hits and three walks while striking out three.
Chelsea Zola got the final out in the seventh.
In the night cap, Kutztown attacked Clarion's Zola early with three runs in the first inning and added another two in the third from a home run by Katie Lynch.
The Golden Eagles fought back in the third when
Rebecca Lynch started the inning by getting to first on an error.
Sara Clark then hit a line drive to center field to put runners on first and second.
Amanda Gough advanced the runners and ended up at first after an error by the Kutztown pitcher, Stephanie Pritchard. A fielder's choice cut off Lynch at the plate after a ground ball back to the pitcher by
Kirsten Wilcox. However, with the bases still loaded, Sherry smacked a three-run double to the right-center field gap to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Kutztown answered Clarion's three run bottom of the third with three unearned runs in the top of the fourth.
Zola was the losing pitcher allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits in two innings of work.
Megan Daley relieved and went five innings allowing three unearned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out one.
Clarion will be back in action on the road Tuesday at Mansfield and Wednesday at Gannon before hosting IUP at 2:30 p.m. Friday. All days are doubleheaders.
