GOUGH HAS THREE HITS, TWO RUNS SCORED BUT SOFTBALL FALLS IN DH TO MANSFIELD

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLARION, Pa. – Clarion's Amanda Gough had three hits and two runs scored in a doubleheader vs. Mansfield Friday, but the Golden Eagles dropped both games losing 7-5 in Game One and 8-0 in five innings in Game Two.
 
Gough was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the opener and then went 1-for-2 in the nightcap.
 
In Game One, Clarion (8-24 overall, 0-10 PSAC Central) led 1-0 after three thanks to a Gough single that saw her come around and score on a Mansfield (19-10, 7-5) error.
 
But Mansfield scored three times in the fourth and three in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.
 
Clarion rallied getting three of its own in the bottom of the sixth. Taylor Sherry and Julie Sokol both produced RBI singles in the inning with Kirsten Wilcox picking up a run-scoring double helping the Golden Eagles get back within two, 6-4.
 
Mansfield got a run back in the top of the seventh to go up 7-4 before Clarion picked up a run in the bottom of the inning when Gough, who had singled with one out, scored on an Elizabeth Shiring single. The Golden Eagles appeared to get another run when Sherry reached on an error, but the freshman was called out for not having officially reentered the game after being pinch ran for in the sixth by Paige Alexander.
 
Kacie Nemeth was also 2-for-4 in the game for Clarion with a run scored, while Wilcox was 2-for-3 with the double, a run scored and an RBI.
 
Sokol took the loss going seven innings and allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out four.
 
Kaitlyn Harris and Erin Carroll each had two RBIs for Lock Haven, while Kate Pratt was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. Pratt got the win going 5 2/3 innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits while striking out three. Emily Crandell picked up the save allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out one in 1 1/3 innings of work.
 
In Game Two, Clarion got four hits off Liz Pieniazek with Rebecca Lynch doubling and Gough, Sherry and Taylor Powell all picking up singles.
 
Carroll hit another home run for Mansfield and was 2-for-3 in the game, while Chara Dixon drove in three runs.
 
Shawnna Crago took the loss going three innings and allowing five runs, all earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out one. Megan Daley finished throwing two innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out two.
 
Clarion returns to action Saturday when it hosts Lock Haven in a PSAC Central doubleheader. The first game is now scheduled to start at noon because of the threat of bad weather later in the day.
