CLARION-
Taylor Powell goes 3 for 5 on the day, but Clarion drops the twin bill at home against PSAC Central opponent Lock Haven Saturday afternoon at Clarion's Memorial Stadium 9-1 and 8-0.
In game one of the double header, Clarion trailed early allowing a three run home run in the top of the first. The Golden Eagle bats came alive in the bottom of the first, however, gaining back a run from a leadoff double by
Rebecca Lynch. She quickly stole third on a bunt attempt by
Amanda Gough. After the stolen base by Lynch, Gough was given the signal to swing away, and that is what she did by driving in Lynch with a frozen rope single up the middle.
Kirsten Wilcox reached first on a fielder's choice when the first baseman cut down the lead runner, Gough, at second.
Kacie Nemeth stepped up and hit a shot to center field to advance Wilcox to second.
Taylor Sherry hit a hard ground ball through the hole to left field, just hard enough for Head Coach Shintrika Hudson to hold Wilcox at third. This loaded the bases with
just one out for the Golden Eagles.
Clarion center fielder,
Sara Clark, struck out for out two and to bring up
Taylor Powell. Powell hit what looked to be a big clutch hard hit ground ball up the middle. However, Lock Haven short stop, Sarah Schwalm, made a good play to get her out at first to end Clarion's threat.
The only other threat Clarion made in game one was in the third inning, with two outs, Clark singled into left field. Then Powell doubled her around to third. But another strike out ended the third and the last threat Clarion made in game one.
Clarion put together a total of eight hits in game one. Both Lynch and Powell had two hits, and Gough, Nemeth, Sherry and Clark each had one for Clarion.
In the second game of the twin bill, Clarion's defense again struggled allowing a total of three errors and six unearned runs throughout the game.
The Golden Eagles put together five hits in the game, two by Clark, and Wilcox,
Elizabeth Shiring, and Powell each added one.
The losses drop Clarion's record to 8-25 overall and 0-11 in PSAC play.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, April 17 when they take to the field for a
double header against Slippery Rock at Memorial Stadium, first pitch is scheduled for 2:30pm.
