LYNCH CAPS SOLID CAREER BUT CLARION FALLS TO BLOOMSBURG

Rebecca Lynch hit safely in 33 of her final 44 career games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLARION, Pa. – Clarion senior outfielder Rebecca Lynch capped off a solid career with her team-leading 46th hit of the season, the most by a Golden Eagle since at least 1993, in Game Two of a season-ending twinbill with Bloomsburg Sunday afternoon, but the visiting Huskies got the better of the score in sweeping the doubleheader.

Bloomsburg won Game One 20-0 in five innings and Game Two 8-0 in six innings.

Lynch delivered her 46th hit of the year in the fourth inning of the second game. In addition to leading the team in hits, she also topped the Golden Eagles in batting average (.338), runs scored (20), doubles (10), home runs (3) and stolen bases (3) while finishing second in RBIs (18).

With hits in 33 of her last 44 career games dating back to last season and in 16 of her final 20 this year, Lynch had 109 career hits, the third most by a Clarion player since at least 1993 while scoring 56 career runs, the most by a Golden Eagles since at least 1993. She hit .342 (50 of 146) in her final 44 career games.

Elizabeth Shiring also delivered two hits in Game Two for the Golden Eagles (8-32 overall, 0-16 PSAC Central), who had four hits on the day including a Game One double by Amanda Gough. Gough, who also played volleyball and basketball for Clarion this year becoming the first three-sport athlete in recent memory, finished with a solid .311 average with four doubles, two home runs and four doubles which was even more impressive considering she hadn't played softball in four years since high school.

Taylor Sherry (.306) gave Clarion three regulars (at least 60 at bats) hitting over .300 this year, the first time that has happened since 2007.

But on Sunday, the story was the Bloomsburg bats with the PSAC playoff-bound Huskies (32-12, 11-5) stroking 32 hits in scoring the 28 runs that were also aided by eight Clarion errors (four in each game).

Freshman Julie Sokol took the Game One loss throwing two innings and allowing 12 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits while striking out one. Chelsea Zola pitched three innings allowing eight earned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out two. She also hit a batter.

In Game Two, Megan Daley suffered the loss throwing five-plus innings allowing eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits and three walks. Shawnna Crago finished up throwing a scoreless inning allowing two hits while striking out two.

Gough's first-inning double was Clarion's lone hit of Game One, while Shiring and Lynch each had fourth-inning single in Game Two with Shiring adding a sixth-inning hit.

NOTES – Sherry, a freshman, tied Lynch for the team lead with three home runs while leading the team with 20 RBIs … Gough also stole three bases … Freshman Taylor Powell tied Lynch for the team lead in doubles with 10 … Clarion's .267 average as a team was the third highest since 1993, the team's 46 doubles were the most since 1993 and the 131 runs scored were the most since 1993. Also the 40 games played this year were the most by a Clarion squad after playing just 25 last season, which was the fewest games played since 1993.
