CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion University softball team will be hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness week next week when its hosts three doubleheaders.

The Golden Eagles play Salem International Monday, April 9, (2:30 p.m. Game One start), Slippery Rock Tuesday, April 10, (2:30 p.m. Game One start) and Mansfield Friday April 13 (2:30 p.m. Game One start). As part of the Awareness Week, the team will be wearing special pink shirts for the games and will also be holding fundraisers to raise money for The Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital.

“This is a cause that several girls on the team have had personal experiences with at some point in their lives with family members,” Clarion head coach Shintrika Hudson said. “We want to raise awareness of the disease and at the same time help The Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital. The ability to help out individuals in our own community is important to us.”

To raise money for The Cancer Center, the team is selling t-shirts, which can be purchased for $12 (for one) or $20 (for two). Shirts can be purchased at anytime by contacting Hudson at shudson@clarion.edu or at 814-393-2118. The team will also be selling shirts in second-floor rotunda of the Gemmell Student Center Thursday, April 5, (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Friday, April 6, (9 p.m. to Noon) as well as at all three games next week. In addition to the t-shirts, the team will also be selling raffle tickets for a Vera Bradley duffle bag as well as gift cards to Sheetz, Applebee's and Starbucks. Raffle tickets, which will also be sold in Gemmell Thursday and Friday as well as at the games, will cost $1 each or an arm length for $5.  The raffle will take place in-between Game One and Game Two vs. Mansfield.
