Carlie Bieranowski led the Clarion University women's volleyball team with 15 kills and 7 digs in a 3-1
victory over Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gymnasium.
Emily Stewart added 12 kills and four digs for the Golden Eagles, and
Corinne Manley added eight kills.
Laura Subject led in set assists and digs with 41 and 19 respectively. Senior
Rebecca Ferragonio chipped in with 15 digs.
Clarion won the first set 25-16 before Mercyhurst rallied to the second 25-22. But the Golden Eagles took sets three 25-20 and then dominated in the fourth set 25-10 for the hard-fought win.
In the first set, the match was back-and-forth before Clarion went on a key 7-0 run to pull out the set win.
The second set was going much of the same. Clarion led 21-17 before things changed when Mercyhurst went on an 8-1 run to close the second set giving them the 25-22 win.
The third set went back and fourth most of the way. Clarion prevailed 25-20, which gave them all of the momentum.
The Golden Eagles dominated in the fourth set, winning it 25-10.
With the win, Clarion improves to a record of 15-3 overall, 5-0 in the PSAC West.
Clarion returns to action Friday with a pair of matches. They will host Lock Haven at 11:30 a.m. and East Stroudsburg at 7:30 p.m.
