Live Stats for Clarion Matches | Tournament Schedule

CLARION – The Clarion University women's volleyball team will be hosting the Tony Banner Memorial Invitational Friday and Saturday at Tippin Gym.

There will be 10 total matches involving six teams including four matches for the host Golden Eagles.

Clarion will volley-off the action at 12:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts Shepherd. The Golden Eagles will also face American International at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Roberts Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday and Fairmont State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Slippery Rock will join those teams in completing the six-team field (see full schedule). Live stats for all four Clarion matches will be available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/clarion/wvball/scoreboard.aspx

The Golden Eagles enter the weekend at 2-2 after splitting four matches at the Ferris State Invitational last weekend. Clarion is led by junior right-side hitter/middle hitter Hannah Heeter who collected 48 kills, 28 digs and 13 blocks during the opening weekend, senior middle hitter Rebecca Webb (31 kills, 11 blocks, 10 digs), sophomore setter Laura Subject (127 set assists, 49 digs) and senior Libero/defensive specialist Rebecca Ferragonio (60 digs).

Part of the goal of the tournament is to bring awareness to the Tony Banner Family Scholarship.

Banner was a long-time friend of Clarion University and its athletic programs who passed away Sept. 2, 2011. The Tony Banner Family Scholarship was created by his wife, Betty Jo, and his children, Lindsay, a 2007 Clarion graduate who was a member of the volleyball team, and Andrew. The scholarship honors Mr. Banner's love and support of athletics, particularly as they relate to Clarion University. He believed athletes could learn lessons in the gym and on the field that directly corresponded to everyday life. These lessons could truly improve an individual.

As a result, the recipient of the scholarship should exemplify passion, hard work and pride in self and team. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a member of the Clarion University women's volleyball team who meets the 3.2 GPA requirement of a scholar-athlete.
