Box Score MANSFIELD, Pa. – Despite having three players score in double figures, the Clarion University women's basketball team lost, 77-68, at Mansfield Friday night.
Hannah Heeter led Clarion (7-7 overall, 3-5 PSAC West) with 10 points and 10 rebounds, her 19
th career double-double, while adding four blocked shots, two steals and two assists. But Heeter was limited to just 25 minutes of action because of second-half foul trouble and fouled out with 4:23 to play.
Jasmine Boyd, meanwhile, shot a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor and scored a career-high 11 points to go with four rebounds off the bench in just 10 minutes of action, while
Lauren Savulchak added 11 points, five rebounds and a steal off the pine.
Jena Matter paced Mansfield (4-8, 2-6 PSAC East) with 20 points including 12 of 13 from the free-throw line while adding five rebounds, five steals and two assists. Megan McSwain added 15 points, two assists and two steals, Katie Fitzpatrick had 14 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists and Shaleta Heyward also scored 14 points to go with two steals off the bench.
Clarion turnovers played a big role in the game, as Mansfield forced 27 turnovers with 17 steals and scored 30 points off those giveaways.
That allowed Mansfield to win despite Clarion shooting 50 percent (26 of 52) compared to Mansfield's 38.5 percent (25 of 65). The Mountaineers did go 20 of 27 from the free-throw line with 10 of the charity shots coming in the final two minutes. Clarion was 9 of 15 from the stripe but outrebounded Mansfield 42-32.
Mansfield led 40-39 at halftime before Clarion took its only lead of the second half 10 seconds into the half, 41-40, on a Heeter basket.
But the Mountaineers answered with a 13-0 run that saw the final seven points come after Heeter picked up her third foul, her second of the half, with 16:57 left in the game.
The run allowed Mansfield to take a 53-41 lead, and Clarion never got closer than seven points the rest of the way cutting the deficit to 6861 on an
Aleya Miller jumper with 2:27 left and once again back to seven, 75-68, on two Miller free throws with 19 seconds to play. Mansfield shot 7 of 10 from the line in the final two minutes.
