(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion senior #4 James Fleming (West Mifflin) posted two falls at 157, and teammates Tyler Bedelyon (Jr. Lewistown) at 149 and Justin Ortega (Sr. Oxford) at 197 scored two wins in leading the Golden Eagles to a 25-16 win over Michigan State, and a narrow 21-19 loss to North Carolina in NCAA Division I wrestling on Saturday.
 
                Held at Clarion's Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium, the Golden Eagles raised their dual meet record to 2-5 on the season. North Carolina also defeated Michigan State 23-12 in the other matchup.
 
                Fleming, ranked fourth in the nation at 157-pounds, had a stellar day for Clarion. He pinned North Carolina's Jake Crawford at 4:08, and 20^th ranked David Cheza of Michigan State at 3:33. The wins ran his season record to 20-2, his career record to 112-18 and were his 36^th and 37th falls of his career.
 
                Clarion bolted to a 22-0 lead and won six matches against Michigan State before winning 25-16.
 
                Tyler Fraley (Fr. Freehold, N.J.)got the Eagles rolling with a 9-1 major decision over Brenan Lyon at 125. Joe Waltko (Sr. Allison Park) pinned Brandon Fifield at 1:50 at 133, then Devin Cook (Jr. Bedford) won a 3-2 decision over Nick Trimble at 141 for a 13-0 lead.
 
                Tyler Bedelyon scored a takedown with about 20-seconds remaining to post a 7-6 win over #20 ranked Dan Osterman at 149, then Fleming posted his fall over Cheza for Clarion's 22-0 lead after five weight classes.
 
                The Spartans came back with three wins to close to within 22-10. Ryan Watts edged Clarion's Nick Milano (Jr. Erie) at 165, Jordan Wohlfert won a 6-4 overtime decision against the Eagles Ryan Darch (So. Batavia, N.Y.) and John Rizqallah scored an 11-0 major decision over Steven Cressley (Sr. Punxsutawney) at 184.
 
                Clarion clinched the win when Justin Ortega decisioned Luke Jones 5-2 at 197. Ortega's first period takedown and second period reversal provided the winning points.
 
                MSU's #4 ranked Mike McClure pinned Phil Catrucco (Sr. Sharpsville) at 6:54 to make the final score 25-16.
 
                In the first matchup, North Carolina jumped out to a 9-0 lead when #12 rated Nathan Kraisser held on to defeat Tyler Fraley 10-7 at 125, #17 Joey Ward decisioned Joe Waltko 8-2 at 133 and #6 rated Evan Henderson won 6-0 over Devin Cook at 141.
 
                Clarion bounced back to tie at 9-9 when Tyler Bedelyon decisioned Christian Barber 3-2 at 149 and Fleming pinned Crawford at 4:08.
 
                The deciding points came in the next three matches, where takedowns in the final 20-seconds secured major decisions and provided the winning bonus points for the Tar Heels. John Staudenmayer won 9-1 over Milano at 165, Tanner Eitel won 8-0 against Ryan Darch at 174 and #19 Alex Utley won 10-2 over Steven Cressley at 184.
 
                Justin Ortega came back for Clarion and won a 9-0 major decision over Frank Abbondanza at 197 and Phil Catrucco pinned Cody Klempay at 4:18 with a cradle to make the final 21-19 in favor of North Carolina.
 
                CLARION NOTES: Fleming's 112 career wins passes Ken Haselrig (1984-87) 111-24-3 and Dan Payne (1992-95) 111-35 who had 111 career wins and puts Fleming 15^th on the all-time win list…. Next up are Ken Nellis (1982-86) 113-28-5 and Paul Clark (1984-87) 113-26-1 who had 113 career wins… Clarion will visit Kent State next Sunday at 2pm.
