CLARION VISTS #28 KENT STATE SUNDAY

                (Clarion, Pa.):  After defeating Michigan State (25-16) and narrowly losing to North Carolina (21-19) last Saturday, Clarion's NCAA Division I wrestling team returns to action on Sunday, January 20, when the Golden Eagles travel Kent State to take on the #28 ranked Golden Flashes .
 
                The match begins at 2pm at the M.A.C. Center. All the action can be heard live on the radio on WCCR-FM 92.7 in Clarion, as well as on the internet at redzonemedia.com, with Rich Herman calling the action.
 
                The Golden Eagles are 2-5 in dual meet action in 2012 under first year head coach Troy Letter. Clarion is coming off a solid performance in their split against Michigan State and North Carolina last Saturday. Clarion won 6 matches in defeating Michigan state 25-16, while winning four in narrowly losing to North Carolina 21-19. The season started with the Golden Eagles losing to #18 Rutgers (26-6), defeated Eastern Michigan 21-10, lost to #10 Northwestern 26-9 and #20 Edinboro 28-12 and then lost to #13 rated Pitt 26-15. The Golden Eagles also placed second at the 70th Annual PSAC Championships in December.
 
                The Golden Eagles lineup for Sunday will feature - #4 ranked James Fleming (Sr. West Mifflin) at 157-pounds. The Golden Eagle senior has a season record of 21-2 and a career record of 113-18 – tied for 13th on the all-time list with former standouts Ken Nellis (1982-86) 113-28-5 and Paul Clark (1984-87) 113-26-1.
 
The Clarion lineup will likely have Tyler Fraley (Fr. 8-8; Freehold, N.J) at 125; Joe Waltko (Sr. 11-12; Allison Park) at 133; John Matacic (Fr. 9-7; N. Jackson, Ohio), Devin Cook (Jr. 7-7; Bedford) or Sam shelock (So. 9-6; West Mifflin) at 141; Tyler Bedelyon  (Jr. 13-9; Lewistown) at 149; #4 ranked James Fleming (Sr. 21-2; West Mifflin)  at 157; Nick Milano (Jr. 3-11; Erie, Pa.) at 165; Ryan Darch (So. 5-11; Batavia, N.Y.) at 174; Steven Cressley (Sr. 7-12; Punxsutawney) at 184; Justin Ortega (Gr. 13-9; Oxford) at 197 and Phil Catrucco (Sr. 17-13; Sharpsville) at 285.
 
                Kent, led by 8th year head coach Jim Andrassy, enters the dual with a season record of 4-3 and a 1-0 mark in the MAC. Wins have come against Northern Illinois (29-9), VMI (44-3), Arizona State (26-12) and Old Dominion (27-6). Losses are against Ohio State (27-10), Virginia Tech (26-9) and Boise State (27-12). They are ranked #28 in the latest USA Today/NWCA/AWN Coaches Poll.
 
CLARION NOTES: Clarion has a series record of 12-9 against Kent State… Kent won last year 30-16 and in 2011  44-6 at Kent  … The Flashes also won in 2010 (24-15) and in 2009 (22-14) score… Clarion's last win against Kent came in 2001 by a 23-12 score. .. Fleming has 37 career falls and 17 technical falls… His 37 career falls places him 11th all-time at Clarion … Don Rohn and Mike Cole had 38 career falls at Clarion and are next up for Fleming.
