BEHIND 17 POINTS, 25 REBOUNDS FROM HEETER, CLARION RALLIES PAST LOCK HAVEN

Hannah Heeter tied a career-high with 25 rebounds while recording her 22nd career double-double

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Hannah Heeter had 17 points and 25 rebounds, and Clarion used a 12-4 run over the last 4:10 to pull out a 60-59 win over visiting Lock Haven in a key PSAC West game Wednesday at Tippin Gym.
 
The Golden Eagles (9-9 overall, 5-7 PSAC West) trailed 54-48 following an Emily Daugherty layup with 4:18 to play before seven straight Clarion points put Clarion ahead 55-54 on an Emma Fickel layup at 2:40.
 
After that the lead changed hands three more times in the next two minutes before a pair of Leisha Crawford free throws put Clarion ahead for good, 59-58, with 39 seconds left. Heeter then hit a free throws with 17 seconds to play after a Lock Haven missed shot to make it 60-58. Heeter missed the second charity shot but grabbed her own rebound. Crawford was then fouled with 14 seconds to play but missed the free throw.
 
Lock Haven had a chance to tie the game when Marrysa Moyer was fouled by Ann Deibert with 5.1 seconds left. Moyer missed the first charity shot but hit the second one brining Lock Haven within a point. Clarion then turned the ball over on the inbounds pass, and Lock Haven had two chances to win the game in the final seconds. But J.J. Hilliard missed a short shot, and Moyer was off on about a 10-footer at the horn.
 
Fickel
Clarion trailed by three, 28-25, at halftime but outscored Lock Haven 35-31 in the second half partly thanks to 12 points from Heeter and 10 from Fickel, who scored all 10 of her tallies in the second half while hitting a pair of three-pointers. It was the second straight double-digit game for the junior, whose two threes back-to-back five minutes into the half finished a 10-0 run that turned a five-point deficit, 32-27, into a five-point lead, 37-32, with 14:22 to play.
 
After that the game was tied five times and the lead changed hands five times before the final sprint by Clarion led to the victory.
 
Heeter added four assists, three blocks and two steals to her 17 points and 25 rebounds. The 25 boards tied her career high. She also had 25 vs. California last season. Heeter missed her third career 20-20 game by three points.
 
Fickel chipped in four steals to go with her 10 points, while Crawford had eight points and three helpers.
 
Moyer led Lock Haven with 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Hilliard also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards while adding seven assists and three steals. Kelsey Ryan chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.
 
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Gannon. Prior to the game (starting at 1:45 p.m.) the Clarion and Keystone fifth- and sixth-grade basketball teams will be playing games at Tippin.
 
NOTES – Heeter now has three career 20-rebound games and 12 15-rebound contests, the second-most 15-rebound games in school history to Heather Cigich's 16 … The double-double was Heeter's second straight and the 22nd of her career tying her with Cheryl Bansek and Shay Godwin for the fourth-most double-doubles ever at Clarion … With three assists, Raven Jones is one helper away from becoming the fourth player in school history with 300 in a career … Heeter has 45 points and 44 rebounds in her last two games against Lock Haven after putting up 28 points and 19 rebounds in a 78-62 Clarion win Feb. 15, 2012 … After missing four games with an injury, Ann Deibert returned for Clarion Wednesday and played 20 minutes with six points, three rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
