FINAL RESULTS
(Edinboro, Pa.):
Derek Nelson (Mt. Joy/Donegal) won two events,
Royce Tipper (Jr. Coraopolis/Cornell) picked up a huge win in the 100 butterfly and the 200 free relay team won the fin event giving the Clarion Men's Swimming team a 130-126 come from behind win over Edinboro on Saturday afternoon.
Held at McComb Natatorium, the Clarion men upped their season record to 3-1 and 2-0 against PSAC schools, while Edinboro dropped to 2-5 overall.
Nelson won two individual events on the day including the 100 breaststroke (59.90) and the 200 breaststroke (2:09.79).
Perhaps the biggest win came from junior
Royce Tipper in the 100 butterfly. He swam a winning time of 53.39 – winning by one-hundredth of a second over the Boro's Darren Suroviec (53.40).
Also posting wins for the Golden Eagles were
Matt Bojalad (Sr. Dubois) in the 50 free (21.95) and
Joe Ward (Sr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) in the 100 free (47.83).
Clarion had to win the final event, the 200 free relay, to take the event. The unit o
f Ward, Casey Dunleavy (Sr. McMurray/Peters Twp.), Dylan Snyder (Jr. Erie/Strong Vincent) and Bojalad swam a winning time of 1:27.31 – winning by 54-hundredths of a second.
“It was a really exciting meet,” said Clarion head coach
Mark VanDyke, who is in his 13
th season. “Royce's win was huge, and the final relay came through and gave us the win. This was truly a team effort. Everyone who scored today helped us win this meet.”
The Golden Eagles will swim at Pitt on February 2, with the PSAC Championships set on Feb. 14-17 at Cumberland Valley High School.
