Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Despite a season-high 18 points from
Raven Jones and another 15-rebound game from
Hannah Heeter, the Clarion University women's basketball team dropped a 74-60 decision to visiting West Chester Friday night at Tippin Gym.
West Chester (6-4 overall, 3-3 PSAC East) rode a hot-shooting first-half and a solid performance from behind the arc to the victory.
The visiting Rams made themselves at home at Tippin in the opening 20 minutes shooting 53.3 percent (16 of 30) while making 7 of 12 threes in the half to build a 41-32 halftime lead.
While West Chester cooled down in the second half (42.9 percent shooting and 3 of 7 from three-point range), Clarion was never able to get close than seven in the second half doing so on three occasions, the last coming with 3:46 to play at 62-55. But West Chester finished the game on a 12-5 run.
Jones was 6 of 10 from the floor and 5 of 5 from the line to lead Clarion with her 18 points. Heeter had a game-high 15 rebounds, the 10
th game of her young career of 15 or more boards but was held to a season-low six points on 2 of 8 shooting. She did added three assists, three steals and two blocks.
Mariah Gador also scored in double digits for the Golden Eagles with 13 points.
Ambreelinne Ortman led all scorers with 19 points for West Chester while hitting 8 of 14 shots including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. She also had five rebounds. Paige Elliott and Dallas Ely each added 11 points for the Rams, while Alex Lennon had eight points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals.
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Cheyney.
NOTES – Heeter's 10 games of 15 or more rebounds ranks third in school history behind Heather Cigich (16) and Shay Godwin (11) … Jones' career high is 24 points vs. Gannon in 2011.
