BALANCED EFFORT LEADS CLARION TO 18TH WIN 3-1 AT GANNON

ERIE, Pa. – Emily Stewart, Carlie Bieranowski, Kelly Shannon and Hannah Heeter each reached double digits in kills to help Clarion to its 18th win of the year, 3-1 at Gannon, Saturday afternoon.
 
The victory moves the Golden Eagles to 18-1 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC West. It's the best start in school history after 19 games bettering the previous mark of 17-2 set in 2002, 2007 and 2010.
 
Stewart led the way with 18 kills, 18 digs and four blocks, while Bieranowski added 12 kills and 15 digs. Shannon chipped in with 11 kills, six blocks and three digs while hitting .500 (11 kills, 1 errors, 20 attempts), and Heeter had 10 kills, four blocks and three digs while hitting .381 (10-2-21). Corinne Manley chipped in eight kills, while Laura Subject had 56 set assists, 12 digs, three kills and a block with Morgan Seybold chipping in 20 digs.
 
For Subject, she has 125 set assists in her last two matches and became the sixth player in school history to reach 2,000 career set assists in the first set Saturday. She finished the day with 2,048 set assists.
 
Clarion dropped the first set by a score of 25-20 but won the final three sets by tallies of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-23. The fourth set was the most interesting of those three, as the Golden Eagles trailed 23-20 in the set before rolling off the final five points to take the match. Shannon, a freshman, had a hand in all five tallies with a pair of kills and three block assists.  
 
Jordyn Thiery led Gannon (11-7, 6-3) with 15 kills and 17 digs.
 
The Golden Eagles return to Tippin Gym for the first time since early September when they host Juniata at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
