Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. – The Clarion University women's volleyball team suffered its first conference loss since early October when it fell 3-1 at Edinboro Friday night.
Despite the loss, Clarion (30-3 overall, 19-2 PSAC West) stays in a first-place tie with California (Pa.) in the West with one match to play. Cal lost 3-2 at Mercyhurst. Clarion is at Slippery Rock (2 p.m.) Saturday and Cal is at Gannon. A Clarion win and a Cal loss would give Clarion the PSAC West title outright. A win by both teams would give them a tie for the title with a tiebreaker used to determine the top seed in the PSAC West playoffs and a win by Cal and a Clarion loss would give Clarion the title.
On Friday, Clarion started well winning the first set 25-20, but Edinboro (17-18, 8-13) pulled off the upset by winning the next three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 26-24.
Emily Stewart paced the Golden Eagles with 16 kills and eight digs with
Hannah Heeter chipping in eight kills and three blocks and
Corinne Manley added seven kills, four digs and three blocks and hit .429 (7 kills, 1 errors, 14 attempts) for the match.
Laura Subject had 34 set assists and 11 digs for Clarion, while
Morgan Seybold added digs.
Carlie Bieranowski also had 10 digs and six kills.
Megan Branchick led Edinboro with 15 kills, while Marah Maycock had 13 kills and 11 digs.
