MATTHEWS & DALEY LEAD CLARION TO 2-1 RECORD AT JOURNEYMAN DUALS
 
                (Troy, N.Y.): Clarion's Austin Matthews (Fr. Greenville/Reynolds) at 157 and Evan Daley (Fr. Erie/Fort LeBoeuf) at 285 went 3-0 on the day helping the Golden Eagle wrestling team to a 2-1 record at the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals held in Troy, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.
 
                Held at Hudson Valley Community College, the Golden Eagles looked good overall  in losing a hard-fought 21-13 dual to #11 ranked Virginia, while defeating Columbia 20-16 and Buffalo 33-7 in NCAA Division I Wrestling.
 
                Clarion improved its season record to 4-4 and will next participate in the PSAC Championships on Saturday, December  7 at Edinboro University starting at 10am.
 
                Clarion opened the dual meet with a quality performance in a 21-13 loss to Virginia. Unranked Tyler Bedelyon (Sr. Lewistown/Indian Valley) decisioned #11 rated Joe Spisak at 141, Sam Sherlock (Jr. west Mifflin) had a big 10-5 decision over #19 ranked Joe Martinez at 133, Austin Matthews won a 1-8 decision over Blaise Butler  at 157 and heavyweight Evan Daley scored an 11-2 major decision over Collin Campbell  at 285.  Clarion's #17 ranked Justin Arthur (Fr. Huntington, W.V.) lost an 8-5 decision to #11 ranked Gus Sako at 149.

                Clarion and Columbia split five bouts each, but Ryan Darch's (Jr. Batavia, N.Y.) fall over Eric Fajardo at 174 Justin Arthur's technical fall over Connor Sutton at 149 provided the margin of victory. Austin Matthews won a 9-2 decision over Markus Scheidel at 157 and Dustin Conti (FR. Jefferson-Morgan) won an 8-3 decision against Zack Hernandez at 184. Clarion led 17-16 heading to heavyweight where Evan Daley won a 9-4 decision over Wyatt Baker to secure the win for the Golden Eagles.
 
                In the final match of the day Clarion topped Bufalo 33-9. Clarion won 8 of 10 bouts including falls from Tyler Bedelyon and Austin Matthews, a technical fall by Ryan Darch and a major decision by Evan Daley at 285. Decisions were posted by Jonathan Mele (Fr. Berkeley Hts., N.J.) at 125, Sam Sherlock at 133, Justin Arthur at 149, and Dustin Conti at 184.
 
                CLARION NOTES: Individual Records so far this season – Mele 7-6; Sherlock 8-5; Bedelyon 3-7; Arthur 14-2; Matthews 6-1; Pavasko 7-6; Conti – 3-4;  Sutherland 4-5; Contreras 4-7; Daley 8-5… In interesting scores, #11 Virginia also defeated Rutgers 22-9 before losing a 19-14 match to Lehigh… Columbia in one of their other matches defeated Michigan State 16-15.
