CLARION WRESTLERS HOST #15 EDINBORO SUNDAY AT 2PM
The EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) dual meet season will begin on Sunday for the Golden Eagles when Clarion hosts #15 ranked Edinboro at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium. Match time is set for 2pm and tickets will be available at the door.
The Clarion - Edinboro match can be heard live on the radio on WWCR-FM, 92.7 in Clarion, as well as on the internet at redzonemedia.com, with
Rich Herman and Bob Bubb calling the action.
Clarion, under the guidance of second year head coach
Troy Letters, enters the dual meet with a 4-4 overall record. The extremely young Golden Eagles opened the season with a 2-2 mark at the Eastern Michigan duals having defeated Campbellsville (34-3) and Tiffin (43-6), while losing to Northern Illinois (21-15) and EMU 26-15. The home dual season opened on Nov. 22
nd with a 30-12 loss to Rutgers, then at the Journeyman Northeast Duals Clarion lost a 21-13 decision to #11 Virginia and rebounded for wins against Columbia (20-16) and Buffalo (34-7). Last Saturday Clarion was fourth at the PSAC Championships.
Edinboro, under the direction of 17
th year head coach Tim Flynn, has the 15
th ranked team in NCAA Division I Wrestling and one its strongest lineups in school history. Edinboro is 0-2 in dual meet action having lost to #14 Virginia Tech (23-14) with several starts out of the lineup, and to #3 ranked Iowa (22-19) in an exciting dual meet on December 5. The Scots won the PSAC Championships last Saturday crowning 6 individual champions.

The Edinboro lineup features five ranked wrestlers, including A.J. Schopp at 133 and Mitchell Port at 141 who are ranked second in the nation at their weight classes. The Boro lineup will be #17 Kory Mines (9-2) at 125, #2 A.J. Schopp (11-0) at 133, #2 Mitchell Port (7-0) at 141, #7 David Habat (12-1) at 149, Johnny Greisheimer (7-4) at 157, Kasey Burnett-Davis (7-2) at 165, Zach Towers (4-2) or Patrick Jennings (4-2) at 174; #8 Vic Avery (2-1) at 184; Vince Pickett (6-3) at 197 and Ernest James (7-3) at 285.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion leads the series history against Edinboro by a margin of 32-23 – but Edinboro leads the EWL series 18-6… Edinboro won in December last year 28-12 and in 2011 37-12 … Clarion won 25-21 in December of 2010 … At PSAC's this year Mines defeated Mele 14-6; Schopp pinned Sherlock at 1:59; Greisheimer defeated Matthews 9-8; Davis defeated Pavasko 20-6; Towers pinned Darch and also decisioned him 1-0; and James defeated Daley 15-3… Up next Clarion will host Rider on Dec. 21.
