Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Despite 16 points and 13 rebounds from
Hannah Heeter, the Clarion University women's basketball team fell to Kutztown 80-70 Tuesday night at Tippin Gym.
Kutztown (5-3 overall) led 41-24 at halftime before holding on for the 10-point victory.
Heeter finished with her second consecutive double-double to start the season, the 31
st of her career, after missing the first five games due to the volleyball season. Heeter added four blocks and an assist and shot 6 of 8 from the floor.
Raven Jones also added 16 points for Clarion, with nine of them coming in the final 3:56 including a pair of 3-pointes in the last 37 seconds, while picking up two steals and two assists.
Kelly Johnson was the only other Golden Eagle in double figures as she finished with 12 points, 10 in the first half, while adding four assists and three steals.
Jasmine Boyd chipped in eight points while
Tania Holmes added 7.
Advia Campbell finished with a double-double for Kutztown scoring 10 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Alyssa Bonenberger finished with 13 points while Elissa Gaffney added 11.
In the first half, Clarion led 13-11 before Kutztown went on an 11-0 run to take a 24-13 lead. The Golden Bears ended the first half on a 30-11 run and took a 17-point lead heading to the locker room.
Clarion (2-5) was ice cold from the field in the first half shooting only 26.5 percent (9 of 34) from the field while Kutztown shot 51.4 percent (18 of 35).
In the second half, the Golden Eagles opened up on a 14-6 run led by four points from Jones and three from Holmes to cut the lead to 11, 45-34, but Kutztown then answered with a 13-4 run to extend their lead to 20 with 12:32 left.
Clarion fought back again with a 12-1 run to cut the deficit to nine, 63-54, on a Jones three with 6:43 to play. Heeter had five points during the spurt.
The Golden Eagles still trailed by nine, 66-57, following an old-school 3-point play by Jones with 3:56 to play before an 11-2 run by Kutztown put the game away.
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Mansfield.
NOTES – Heeter's 31 double-doubles are the fourth most in school history … She has 27 points and 29 rebounds in two games this season.
