Box Score 2 CLARION SOFTBALL LOSES DH AT E. STROUDSBURG
(E. Stroudsburg, Pa.): Clarion senior shortstop
Amanda Gough pounded out 4 hits and 5 rbi Saturday at East Stroudsburg, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles lost a hard fought doubleheader against the Warriors by scores of 4-3 and 5-2.
Held at Zimbar Field, the Golden Eagles dropped to 3-13 overall, while ESU raised its record to 15-14.
In game one Clarion took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when
Kayla Henderson walked, stole second with one out, and scored on an rbi single up the middle by
Amanda Gough.
ESU answered with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth of starter and losing pitcher
Jessica Rohaus.
In the fifth Clarion answered with two runs to narrow the score to 4-3. Henderson reached on an error, and went to second when
Kirsten Wilcox singled.
Megan Anderson walked to load the bases with one out, and
Amanda Gough delivered again with a two run single, scoring Henderson and Wilcox, with Anderson and Gough moving up to second and third on the throw home.
Taylor Powell struck out looking and
Nicole Lindner grounded out to third to close the Eagle threat.
Wilcox singled with one out in the seventh, but the Eagles could not plate the run and lost 4-3.
Gough was 2 for 4 with 3 rbi, and Wilcox ended 2 for 3. Rohaus pitched 4 innings yielding 4 runs, three earned, with one walk and one strike out.
Chelsea Zola pitched two scoreless innings.
In game two the Eagles again opened with a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Wilcox walked with one out, and with two outs,
Amanda Gough doubled Wilcox home for her fourth rbi of the day.
ESU bounced back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Cara McNeil had a two rbi single off starter
Julie Sokol.
The Warriors scored a run in the fourth to go ahead 3-1, then Clarion bounced back with a run in the top of the sixth to narrow the gap to 3-2.
Kirsten Wilcox reached on an infield single, then
Megan Anderson reached on an error by the shortstop to put runners and first and second. Gough singled to center field scoring Wilcox to make the score 3-2.
Taylor Powell struck out and
Nicole Lindner flied out to center field to end the inning.
ESU scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach making the final score 5-2.
Gough ended the game going 2 for 3 with 2 rbi, while Wilcox and
Emily Leininger had the other Clarion hits. Sokol pitched a complete game giving up 5 runs, only 3 earned, with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Gough finished the day going 4 for 7 at the plate with a double, three singles and five rbi.
Clarion returns to action on Tuesday when the Golden Eagles host Mercyhurst in a doubleheader starting at 3pm at Memorial Stadium.
