STEWART, HEETER LEAD VOLLEYBALL TO A PAIR OF PSAC WINS FRIDAY

Hannah Heeter had 16 kills in a 3-1 win over Lock Haven and 12 in a 3-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Behind monster matches from Emily Stewart and Hannah Heeter, the Clarion University women's volleyball team started PSAC play with a pair of victories Friday at a PSAC Crossover at California (Pa.).
 
The Golden Eagles beat Lock Haven 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-14, 26-24) and Pitt-Johnstown 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-17) to move to 12-0 on the season and 2-0 in the PSAC West. It marks just the third time in school history Clarion has been 12-0 to start a year, the other two being in 1973 (15-0) and 2007 (12-0).
 
Stewart and Heeter were the catalysts in both matches combining 65 matches between them in the two victories.
 
Heeter had 16 kills and three blocks while hitting .424 (16 kills, 2 errors, 33 attempts) in the win over Lock Haven and then followed up with 12 kills, two digs  and three blocks in the win over UPJ.
 
Stewart, meanwhile, had 23 kills and 23 digs to go with blocks in the win over UPJ after having 14 kills and 12 digs in the victory over Lock Haven.
 
Joining the offensive onslaught against Lock Haven was Carlie Bieranowski with 12 kills while adding three digs and Corinne Manley, who had eight kills and two blocks.
 
Against UPJ, Abbey Cox added 12 kills while hitting .476 (12-2-21) and also had two blocks.
 
Laura Subject had two more solid matches running the offense and defensively recording 49 set assists and seven digs in the victory over Lock Haven and adding 57 set assists and 11 digs in the win over UPJ.
 
Morgan Seybold had 36 digs vs. Lock Haven and 29 vs. UPJ to pace a defense that also saw Lauren Magalski record 11 digs vs. UPJ after having five vs. Lock Haven.
 
Clarion finishes up crossover play this weekend with a pair of matches Saturday at Cal taking on Shippensburg at 12:30 p.m. and Millersville at 3:30 p.m.
