NO. 2 GANNON TOPS GOLDEN EAGLE WOMEN

Emma Fickel had a game-high 14 points for Clarion

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – No. 2 ranked Gannon used a balanced effort to defeat homestanding Clarion 68-57 in PSAC West women's basketball action Saturday night at Tippin Gym.
 
Eleven Lady Knights scored led by 11 points each from Jen Papich and Brittany Batts to help Gannon (16-0 overall, 5-0 PSAC West) to its 20th consecutive regular-season win dating back to last season.
 
Clarion got a game-high 14 points and five rebounds from Emma Fickel and 10 points and eight rebounds from Hannah Heeter, who played the entire game in foul trouble before fouling out late in the second half.
 
With Heeter on the bench for all but four minutes of the first half, Gannon built a 39-21 halftime lead on the strength of a 23-6 run from the 11:27 mark of the half until the 2:25 point.
 
The Lady Knights then maintained the lead between 17 and 23 points the entire second half despite a solid half from Heeter, who had eight points and six rebounds in the half before fouling out with 6:13 to play.
 
Nettie Blake added 10 points and six rebounds, while Papich added nine rebounds for Gannon, which also got eight points from Amanda Berchtold and seven from Jennie Thies off the bench. Kelly Sundberg added eight assists, five rebounds, three steals and six points.
 
Tania Holmes added six points, three rebounds and two assists for Clarion with Delrika Carey-Jones adding six points and three rebounds off the bench. Kelly Johnson had a team-high five assists to go with four rebounds, two steals and two points.
 
Clarion returns to action at 6 p.m. Monday when it hosts Walsh (Ohio) in a makeup game from a game postponed Nov. 26 because of weather.
 
NOTES – Fickel now has 952 career points … Clarion was without Raven Jones, who missed the game with an undisclosed injury … Fickel has now scored in double digits in three straight and five of her last six.
