HEETER, STRAW NOT ENOUGH AS WOMEN'S BBALL FALLS TO SETON HILL

Jen Straw tied a season high with 9 points for Clarion

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Despite another double-double by Hannah Heeter and a strong game off the bench from Jen Straw, the Clarion University women's basketball team fell 64-58 to visiting Seton Hill in PSAC West action Saturday night at Tippin Gym.
 
Heeter recorded her 35th career double-double, her sixth of the season and her second in a row with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Straw tied a season high with nine points while adding three rebounds, three assists and a steal in 14 minutes of work off the bench for the Golden Eagles (7-9 overall, 1-5 PSAC West).
 
But Seton Hill (11-5, 3-3) got a double-double from Katie Gattuso, who had 12 points and 15 rebounds to go with four assists, two blocks and two steals. It was the senior's 37th career double-double. Gattuso was one of four Griffins in double figures. Meghan Mastroianni led Seton Hill with 18 points while adding six rebounds and Tiara Stossel and Paige Alviani each had 15 points.
 
Eight of Stossel's points came during a game-changing 16-4 run for Seton Hill midway through the second half.
 
Clarion led 45-43 following a Heeter basket with 11:37 to play, but the Griffins, led by Stossel, went on a 16-4 run over the next eight minutes to take a 59-49 lead with 3:06 to play.
 
The Golden Eagles got back within five, 61-56, following an Emma Fickel 3-pointer with 1:43 left, but Seton Hill made 3 of 5 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
 
Fickel finished with 11 points for Clarion and is 13 points shy of becoming the 15th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Tania Holmes also had 11 points, a season-high seven rebounds and five assists for Clarion.
 
The Golden Eagles started out strong taking a 14-point lead, 23-9, 10 minutes into the game. But Seton Hill started chipping away at the Clarion lead and closed within four, 33-29, at halftime. The Griffins then took their first lead of the game, 43-42, seven minutes into the second half before Clarion scored the next three points cumulating with the Heeter basket at the 11:37 mark.
 
A Stossel three, however, gave the lead back to Seton Hill a little under two minutes later and started the game-deciding run.
 
Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mercyhurst.
