EMMA FICKEL SCORES 1,000TH CAREER POINT; CLARION FALLS TO EDINBORO

Box Score Watch Fickel score her 1,000th career point

CLARION, Pa. – Senior Emma Fickel became the 15th player in Clarion University women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points in an 85-67 Golden Eagle loss to visiting Edinboro Saturday night at Tippin Gym.

Fickel, who needed eight points coming into the night to become the first Clarion player since Katrina Greer in 2008 to reach the 1,000-point milestone, reached the mark on a two-on-one break away with Kelly Johnson with 1:44 to play. Johnson had one of her team-high five assists on the play.

"It's a great accomplishment," Fickel said. "But I couldn't have done it without my teammates, coaches and God blessing me with this strong body."

Finishing with eight points, Fickel was one of four Golden Eagles to score at least eight on the night.

Hannah Heeter led the way with her fourth straight double-double, her eighth of the season and the 37th of her career with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go with a block and a steal. She shot 8 of 11 from the field.

Johnson added 14 points and four steals to go with her five assists, while Tania Holmes had 11 points, four assists, a block and a steal.

But Edinboro got 28 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists from Aignee Freeland and 19 points and four rebounds from Lauren Hippo and outscored Clarion 46-32 in the second half after the Golden Eagles were within four, 39-35 at halftime.

Edinboro started the second half on a 13-0 run to basically put the game away, as Clarion never got closer than nine, 52-43, the rest of the way. Seven made free throws (7 of 8) fueled the early run for Edinboro with Clarion being called for more fouls (four) in the first four minutes of the second half than the Golden Eagles had been called for the entire first half (2).

Valerie Majewski added 13 points, five assists and five steals for Edinboro, while Darche' Jackson had 12 points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block.

Clarion had a strong first half against the first-place Fighting Scots and led 19-18 halfway through the half.

Edinboro rallied with a 10-0 run to go up 28-19 with 7:30 to play before the break but Clarion answered back thanks to six points from Heeter and a Fickel 3-pointer just before the horn to get within the four at the break.

NOTES – Fickel's two made threes give her 220 in her career, the fourth-best mark in school history … Johnson now has at least one steal in 12 straight games … Heeter now has 862 points and 768 rebounds in 2 ½ seasons with the Golden Eagles.
