LATE BLOOMSBURG RUN DROPS MEN'S BBALL

Marques Jones had 12 points and hit 4 3-pointers for Clarion

Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bloomsburg used a late-game 8-1 run to deny Clarion head coach Ron Righter his 400th win at the school with a 61-53 victory over the visiting Golden Eagles Friday afternoon.
 
The game was tied at 47 following a pair of Mike Kromka free throws for Clarion (2-7) with 5:07 to play, but the Huskies Jon Riles, who had a game-high 16 points, scored eight of the games next nine points including hitting a pair of 3-pointers to put Bloomsburg (8-3) ahead 55-48 on his second triple of the spurt with 2:40 left.
 
Clarion didn't go away quietly, as DeMarius Miller, who had his sixth straight double-digit game with 12 points, hit a 3-pointer with 1:13 to play to get the Golden Eagles back within four, 55-51. The Golden Eagle defense then got a stop when Riles missed a three with 53 seconds to play, but Marque Jones, who scored 12 points and hit 4 of 7 3-pointers on the day, missed a three at the 36-second mark. The teams then had back-to-back turnovers before Dontahe Jordan hit two free throws with 31 seconds left to put the Huskies ahead 57-51 before a Kromka layup with 23 seconds left made it 57-53. But Bloomsburg sealed the victory when Riles and Zach Sheetz each hit a pair of free throws in the final 21 seconds.
 
Kromka led Clarion with 13 points and 10 rebounds, his third double-double of the season and his second in a row. Aaron Johnson added 10 rebounds, his second straight double-digit rebounding performance, to go with four points, while BJ Andrews had eight points, all in the first half.
 
Alssene Saintilus chipped in 11 points and six rebounds for Bloomsburg.
 
Clarion returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday at East Stroudsburg.
 
NOTES – Righter falls to 399-286 in his 26th year as Clarion's head coach. He has the most wins of any coach in school history … Kromka now has four straight double-digit scoring games and has recorded seven on the season to go with four double-digit rebounding games. He has 12 career double-doubles in his four seasons … Miller, who has scored 12 points in each of his last three games, has eight double-digit games in his first nine contests in a Clarion uniform … Anthony Baker made his first start of the season and his second in two years with Clarion.
