Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Despite
Hannah Heeter's fourth double-double in five games, the Clarion University women's basketball team dropped a 72-52 decision on the road at Bloomsburg Friday afternoon.
Heeter, who is averaging 14.2 ppg and 13.2 rpg in five games since returning to the basketball court after volleyball season in mid-December, recorded a game-high 16 points and 14 rebounds while hitting 6 of 10 shots from the field to lead the Golden Eagles (4-6).
But, Bloomsburg (8-3), which had 12 players reach the scoring column, used a pair of runs – one at the end of the first half and another early in the second half – to get the victory.
Clarion led 17-14 following a Heeter layup with 5:20 left in the first half before Bloomsburg ended the half on a 19-4 run led by eight points from Brianna Dudeck, who finished with 11, to take a 33-21 halftime lead.
After Heeter got the Golden Eagles back within 10, 33-23, with a basket 20 seconds into the second half, the Huskies pulled away with a 25-11 run over the next 11 minutes that saw eight different Bloomsburg players tickle the twine led by five from Jocelyn Ford, who tied Andreana Sadowski for the team lead with 12 points.
Bloomsburg then got the lead to as many as 27, 67-40, with 5:42 to play before Clarion finished the contest with a 12-5 run that featured four points each from freshmen
Delrika Jones-Carey and
Cara Cook.
Kelly Johnson added eight points for Clarion with
Raven Jones chipping in seven and
Tania Holmes six.
Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at East Stroudsburg.
NOTES – Heeter, who had eight points and 11 rebounds in the first half, now has 33 double-doubles in her career, the fourth most in school history. She needs three more double-doubles this season to move into sixth place in school history for double-doubles by a junior. Alison Campbell (1998) and Jeannine Tyler (1991) each had seven … The loss snapped a two-game win streak for Clarion … Bloomsburg scored 20 points off 14 Clarion turnovers and outrebounded the Golden Eagles 43-39 while outscoring Clarion 17-7 on second-chance points … Clarion shot 33.3 percent (21 of 63) from the field including 2 of 14 from beyond the arc, while Bloomsburg was 43.1 percent from the field (28of 65) including 6 of 16 from 3-point range.
