CLARION LOSES 56-28 TO EDINBORO

Delrece Williams ran for another, but Edinboro's offense produced 56 points and defeated the Golden Eagles on Saturday night 56-28 in an NCAA Division II football game.

               Played in front of a Family Day crowd of 2,837 at Memorial Stadium, Clarion's record dropped to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC-West; while Edinboro raised its record to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC-West.

               The Golden Eagles got off to a quick started scoring on its first possession of the game. After Williams returned the opening kickoff to the Clarion 37, qb

Zach Deitrick on the first play for a 62-yard pass to the Edinboro 1. On third down Williams dove off left tackle into the endzone for the Clarion touchdown. The PAT was blocked and Clarion led 6-0 at 12:36 of the first.

               Edinboro came right back and traveled 69-yards in 14 plays to take the lead. Edinboro qb Cody Harris found Darren Massey on a 2-yard td pass, them Tyler Davis scored the two point conversion on a run, after the snapped was bobbled – and the Scots led 8-6 at 5:36 of the first.

               Clarion fumbled the kickoff and Anthony Principale recovered at the Eagle 9. Four plays later Harris hit Massey again for a 3-yard td, but the Pat was blocked by
Brandon Short leaving the Scots ahead 14-6 at 3:16 of the first.

               Clarion came back to tie the game early in the second quarter. Clarion noseguard
Andrew Fragale sacked the Boro's Harris, caused a fumble and
Brandon Short recovered at the Boro 32.

               Simmons hooked up with
Bobby Thomas for a 10-yard pass to the Boro 21 on third down, then hit
Zach Deitrick on a 21-yard td pass to pull within 14-12 at 12:13 of the second. Simmons ran for the two-point conversion to tie the game 14-14.

               Edinboro took the lead for good when Anfreenee Williams scored on a 4-yard run with 5:32 remaining in the second quarter and the Scots led 21-14 at halftime.
               Edinboro went ahead 28-14 in the third when Massey caught his third td pass, a 2-yard reception from Harris, with 6:48 remaining in the third quarter.

               Edinboro scored 21-straight points to open the fourth quarter and jumped in front 49-14 with 8:42 remaining.

               Clarion's final scores came on a Simmons to Deitrick 9 yard pass, and Mat Lehman blocked a punt and returned it 10-yards for a score with 1:51 left to make the final score 56-28.

               Clarion had 245 yards of total offense including 36 rushing yards and 209 passing yards. Simmons completed 14 of 28 passes fro 209 yards and 2 td's.
Zach Deitrick caught 3 passes for 92 yards and 2 td's.
Delrece Williams rushed for 35 yards and 1 td.

               Clarion's defense was led by
Cory McNamara with 9 tackles and
Kwame Bell had 9 hits, 2 sacks and 1 tfl.

               Edinboro had 285 yards of total offense, getting 200 yards passing and 85 rushing. Harris completed 23 of 29 passes for 200 yards and 4 td's. Darren Massey  caught 9 passes for 51 yards and 3 td's, while Kolbe Hughes grabbed 8 aerials for 112 yards and 1 td.
