(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion's
Jaron Moorer caught a 41-yard td pass from
Connor Simmons with 24-seconds left in regulation to give Clarion a 35-28 lead, but Kutztown hit a 32-yard td pass from Chad Barton to Kodi Reed on the game's final play to tie the score, and then won the game in the first overtime when Chad Barton scored on a 12-yard run giving the Kutztown a 41-35 overtime win over Clarion on Saturday afternoon.
Played at Clarion's Memorial Stadium on Senior Day, the Golden Eagle finish the season with a record of 2-9, while Kutztown ended the year with a 6-5 mark.
Clarion was actually trailing 28-21 late in the fourth quarter, and Kutztown had a chance to put the game away. Kutztown lined up for a 21-yard field goal try by Alec Rosenfeld with 6:48 left, but Clarion's
Denzell Jackson blocked the attempt and the ball was recovered by
Cory McNamara at the Clarion 10.
Sophomore qb
Connor Simmons led Clarion on a 90-yard, 7 play drive to tie the game 28-28. Simmons hit a big pass for 16 yards to
Caleb Mancini, and then after 2 carries by
Bobby Thomas netted 15 yards, Simmons hooked up with
Jaron Moorer for 29 yards to the Kutztown 24. Two plays later Simmons hit a wide open Moorer down the left sideline for a 25-yard td pass.
Phil Esposito's PAT tied the game 28-28 with 3:44 remaining.

Kutztown once again drove the all down field and had third and 10 on the Clarion 13 – but All-America defensive end

Matt Shuey recovered at the Clarion 24 with 1:31 remaining.
Simmons led the Eagles on a 76-yard, 6-play drive to take a 35-28 lead. The touchdown came when Simmons rolled right, then threw back across the field down the left sideline to a wide
open Jaron Moorer at the 15-yard line who caught the pigskin and sprinted into the endzone giving Clarion its 35-28 lead with only 24 seconds left.
Clarion's short kickoff was returned to the Bear 46 with 17-seconds left. Barton hit Kelly for 14 yards, and then Barton rushed for 8 to the Clarion 32 with 4 seconds remaining. Barton dropped back on the game's final play and lofted a pass into the endzone, where the ball was deflected by a Clarion defensive back, but ended in the arms of Kodi Reed for the game-tying score.
Kutztown scored first in overtime with Barton scrambling on third and seven at the Clarion 12, up the middle and into the endzone for the eventual game-winner. The PAT failed.
Clarion had a good chance to score, and maybe win the game, especially when Simmons hit
Mike Deitrick for a 5-yard pass play to the KU 3. Clarion had first and goal at the 3, and second and goal from the 2, but a holding penalty pushed Clarion back to the 12 and three incompletions ended the game.

Kutztown came back with 21 unanswered points. Terry Williams scored on a 47-yard run, Kellen Williams caught an 8-yard pass from Barton and Nathan Hollander grabbed a 5-yard td pass with 1:47 left in the second for a 21-7 lead.

Clarion rallied to pull within 21-14 when running back
Bobby Thomas (
photo right) bolted around right end for a 64-yard td run with 1:20 left before intermission.
Matt Lehman caught a 33-yard td pass from Simmons with 50-seconds left in the third quarter to tie the game at 21-21.
Kutztown led 28-21 after Terry Williams scored on a 2-yard run, setting up the exciting ending.

Clarion had 460 yards of total offense including 123 rushing and 337 passing
. Connor Simmons (photo left) hit 27 of 43 aerials for 337 yards and 4 td's.
Mike Deitrick caught 9 passes for 60 yards and 1 td, while
Caleb Mancini had 5 catches for 67 yards and
Jaron Moorer grabbed 4 passes for 109 yards and 2 td's.
Bobby Thomas ran 26-times for 109 yards and 1 td. Her finished his career with 423 career carries for 1,688 yards and 13 td's. He ranks 12
th in career rushing.
Kutztown 582 yards of offense on the day with 179 rushing and 403 passing. Chad Barton completed 30 of 53 passes for 403 yards and 3 td's – while also running for 34 yards and 1 td.
Kellen Williams caught 10 passes for 88 yards and 1 td. Kodi Reed made 7 catches for 49 yards and 3 td's.
Terry Williams ran 14 times for 78 yards and 2 td's.
Clarion's defense saw
Julian Howsare make 8 tackles, 2 sacks, a fumble caused, a blocked punt, 2 break-ups and a qb hurry. He finished his career with 256 tackles, 57 tfl's, 39 sacks, 14 pass breakups, 9 fumbles caused, 10 blocked kicks, 3 int's and 2 fumble recoveries.
Jerome Matthews had 9 tackles and a fumble recovery,
Travis Day 8 stops, a tfl and a fumble caused,
Chris Liberto 8 hits,
Adam Lynch 8 hits and
Brian Palmiere 8 tackles, 1 sack, and an interception.
